The next Municipal Election will be held on Monday, October 26, 2026. Nominations for the 2026 Municipal Election are now closed.
As of September 1, visit the online Voters' List Lookup to check if you are on the Voters' List.
If you need to add, amend, or delete your registration, please visit City Hall in-person beginning September 1.
What should I do if I receive a Voter Information Letter that is not addressed to me?
If you receive a Voter Information Letter that is not addressed to you, please write "Return to Sender" on the envelope and place it back in the mail through Canada Post at no cost, as you would with any other misdirected mail. Residents can also drop off surplus Voter Information Letters at City Hall or an Election Centre. Returned Voter Information Letters help the City identify outdated voter information and provide updates to Elections Ontario to improve accuracy of the Voters' List.
Residents are reminded that it is illegal to open mail that is not addressed to them. It is also an offence to use another person’s voter credentials, attempt to vote on someone else's behalf, or cast a ballot if you are not eligible to vote in the City.
To vote in a municipal election, you must:
- Be a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old.
- Be qualified to vote in the municipality by:
- living in the municipality, or
- owning or renting property in the municipality, or
- being the spouse of somebody who owns or rents property in the municipality.
- Not be prohibited from voting according to Section 17 of the Municipal Elections Act (MEA).
Note: property must be personally owner or rented to vote in that municipality. Properties owned by a business or trust do not qualify.
University and College Students:
- Section 2 (2.1) of the MEA allows post-secondary students to vote in both the municipal election where they are attending school and the municipal election in their "home" municipality, provided they are residing in another municipality to attend a post-secondary institution and intend to return to their "home" municipality at the conclusion of their studies.
To run as a candidate in a municipal election, you must:
- Be a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old.
- Be qualified to vote in the municipality by:
- living in the municipality, or
- owning or renting property in the municipality, or
- being the spouse of somebody who owns or rents property in the municipality.
- Not be prohibited from holding municipal office according to Section 29 of the MEA.
Nominations for the 2026 election are open from Friday, May 1, 2026 to Friday, August 21, 2026 at 2 p.m.
