Crossing Guards

The City provides crossing guards to promote active and safe routes to school for elementary school students.

Parents and guardians, please remind students to follow school crossing guards' instructions and stay well back from the curb.
Have younger students walk with you, an older brother or sister, or day care provider.

  • Pay attention, reduce your speed and be ready to stop at all times in school zones.
  • Be patient and wait for children and the crossing guard to finish crossing before proceeding.
  • Stop when a stop paddle is held up by a crossing guard.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and look both ways before proceeding.

Crossing Guard Locations

Updated locations as of September 2017

The City has updated school crossing guard locations starting in September 2017 after the Bluewater District School Board changed elementary school boundaries as a result of last year's accommodation review for the Owen Sound Area Group of Schools. Please see the following maps showing where school crossing guards will be positioned starting in September 2017 to plan a safe walking route for your child:

Changing Crossing Guard Locations

To request the City change a crossing guard location, please write a letter or email the City including:

  • Your name and contact information
  • The location of the request
  • If you want to add, remove or relocate a school crossing guard
  • Any other supporting information

The City will follow the Elementary School Crossing Guard Locations Policy when reviewing your request.
