We have recreation ice time available on three NHL sized arenas:

  • Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre (x2)
  • Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre (J.D. McArthur Arena)

Both of these facilities are Nut-Aware Facilities. Please read the City's Anaphylaxis Policy for more information.

To Book a Facility 
You can book ice time at either facility by calling 519-376-4440 ext. 1255 or by visiting the Community Services Department at City Hall. City Hall hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can also email the Facilities Booking Coordinator.

If you are interested in renting ice on a seasonal basis, more information is available in our Ice Allocation Policy. Complete the Ice Rental Request Form and submit it to the Facilities Booking Coordinator.

Insurance Fee 

All users are required to provide proof of general insurance in the amount of $2 million naming 'The City of Owen Sound' as additional named insured prior to the start of season.

Groups without insurance, occasional users, and other users may purchase insurance through the City of Owen Sound to meet this requirement at the time of ice booking.

All ice users are required to wear a CSA approved helmet.

Last Minute Ice 

Looking for last minute ice time to play shinney or just go for a skate? Last minute ice can now be booked online! If you wish to book the day of, you can visit the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre, call 519-376-3611, or click the Book Now button below to select the timeslot you want. More information is provided below:

  • Last minute ice is considered within 24 hours of the time of booking
  • Will not apply to statutory holidays unless the facility is scheduled to be open
  • Is not and cannot be used to replace regular bookings
  • Regular bookings cannot be cancelled to book Last Minute Ice
  • All requirements of the City's Ice Allocation Policy will apply (e.g. conditions of use, insurance)
  • A rental contract provided by the City must be signed including proof of insurance
  • Bookings are final and are non-refundable
  • Bookings are for a minimum of 1 hour
  • 1 hour rental is equivalent to 50 minutes of ice time and 10 minutes for ice resurfacing
  • The City reserves the right to limit last minute ice bookings where it is considered to be used for profit or gain or is being abused to replace a regular ice booking
  • Is booked on a first come, first serve basis
  • The City reserves the right to cancel or amend the implementation of last minute ice at any time at its discretion

All Last Minute Ice is at the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre.

Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre 

The Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre offers users:

  • Twin NHL size ice pads (85x200)
  • Fully accessible building including elevator access
  • 6 dressing rooms and referee rooms for each ice pad
  • Arena seating; upper level 208, ice level 125
  • Warm viewing area on upper level seats 94
  • One ice pad all year-round
  • Arena floor space is available from April to August
  • A health, fitness and recreation centre including an 8 lane pool, a warm water pool, and a full fitness facility (operated by the YMCA)

Bayshore Community Centre

The Bayshore is large enough to hold any event and is home to the Ontario Hockey League's Owen Sound Attack. Whether it is renting ice, hosting a tournament or special event, the Bayshore's many amenities will not disappoint:

  • NHL size ice pad (85x200) with the ability to convert into a multi-functional surface for special events
  • 8,000 square feet of adjacent banquet hall space to complement your special event
  • 7 dressing rooms and referee room
  • Concessions/bar services available
  • Arena seating (15 private suites; seating 2,809 plus approximately 120 standing room; floor 1,000)
  • Fully accessible building including elevator access
  • Indoor walking track
  • 1,000 parking spaces
Ice Fees 

Ice rental fees are the same for all three ice pads the City offers; however, rates do fluctuate depending on time of year and time of day.

Ice rates are based on a one hour rental, including a 10 minute flood period. Prices are subject to HST and an insurance fee if you wish to purchase insurance directly from the City.
