The City of Owen Sound is developing its first External Communications Strategy — and we want your input! Help shape how the City shares information and hears from residents by completing a short survey at OurCity.OwenSound.ca by November 12. Paper copies are also available at City Hall. Your feedback will guide how we connect with our community today and into the future.
Application forms are due by Monday, November 17 at 4:30 p.m. and are available on the City’s website at OwenSound.ca/CommitteeVacancies or at the Service Owen Sound counter in City Hall.
As winter approaches, Owen Sound’s Public Works Department is ready to begin Winter Control Operations, keeping roads, sidewalks, walkways, and parking lots safe for residents in accordance with the Province of Ontario’s Minimum Maintenance Standards.
Our snow clearing fleet operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the season and includes:
4 plow trucks
1 loader
2 graders
4 sidewalk plows (MVs)
All snow clearing within City limits is managed in-house by the Public Works Department; there are no contracted companies working on behalf of the City.
The City recognizes National Indigenous Veterans Day Saturday, November 8, and Remembrance Day on Tuesday, November 11, marking these important dates with half-masted flags at City facilities. Residents are encouraged to take a pause to remember and honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country in the line of duty. City Hall and Public Works buildings will be closed on Tuesday, November 11, with regular hours of operation resuming on Wednesday, November 12.
Owen Sound continues to celebrate its strong hockey spirit with Hockey Fest 2025, taking place from Thursday, November 13 to Saturday, November 15, 2025.
Hockey Fest is a partnership between Owen Sound Girls Hockey, local elementary and high schools, and the City of Owen Sound with the support of the University of Waterloo Warriors, who compete within Ontario University Athletics.
Take notice that the Council of The Corporation of the City of Owen Sound will hold a public meeting on November 24, 2025 at 5:30 p.m., in the Council Chambers of the City of Owen Sound to consider a proposed City-initiated Official Plan Amendment pursuant to Section 17 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P.13, as amended (the “Planning Act”).
Take notice that the Council of The Corporation of the City of Owen Sound has initiated an application for a Zoning By-law Amendment, being an application to amend Comprehensive Zoning By-law 2010-078, as amended pursuant to Section 34 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P.13, as amended (the “Planning Act”). This application is deemed to be a complete submission under Section 34(10.4) of the Planning Act.
Take notice that the Council of The Corporation of the City of Owen Sound will hold a public meeting to consider Zoning By-law Amendment No. 57 on November 24, 2025 at 5:30 p.m., in the Council Chambers of the City of Owen Sound, in accordance with Section 34 of the Planning Act.
Owen Sound Fire and Emergency Services responded to the report of a fire alarm system activated at 1350 16th Street East shortly after 4:00 a.m. (Kelsey’s Original Roadhouse).
The City of Owen Sound wishes to inform residents and motorists that 2nd Avenue East, between 8th Street East and 9th Street East, will be closed to traffic on the evening of Monday, October 27.
Take notice that the Council of The Corporation of the City of Owen Sound will hold a Special Meeting on Monday, November 24, 2025 at 3:00 p.m., in the Council Chambers of the City of Owen Sound to consider an application to amend the City of Owen Sound Official Plan pursuant to Section 26 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P.13, as amended.
The purpose of the Special Meeting is for Council to receive public feedback and discuss the revisions to the Official Plan that may be required prior to adopting an updated Official Plan.
Safe ‘N Sound, in partnership with the Supportive Outreach Services (SOS) program are launching a pilot program in November aimed at simultaneously supporting local businesses and the unhoused population in Owen Sound’s downtown River District. The new initiative, known as the Neighbourhood Response Team, to work directly with businesses and individuals experiencing homelessness.
The Neighbourhood Response Team will serve as social navigators, responding to public and business concerns, connecting individuals with essential services, collecting personal items from public areas to be reclaimed by owners, and discarding sharps as required. The program will serve as a resource to help build relationships between River District businesses and Safe ‘N Sound Participants and the public, helping to make the downtown River District more welcoming for all.
