    Mayor Ian Boddy Wins Municipal Stewardship Award at Nuclear Conference

    Mayor Ian Boddy received the Municipal Government Stewardship Award from the Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council (CNIC) on Tuesday evening as part of the Canadian Nuclear Association’s conference in Ottawa.  The award recognizes the excellence of an elected official who has emerged as a leader in promoting regional isotope production, workforce and talent development, and partnerships to strengthen the regional supply chain.

    Owen Sound residents are invited to take an online survey about the quality, reliability, and availability of City-owned infrastructure such as sports fields, playgrounds, roads, sidewalks, and community centres.

  • Notice of Special County of Grey Joint All Councils Meeting on April 17, 2025

    Please be advised that a Special County of Grey Joint All Councils meeting will be held jointly with the County of Grey and all of its lower tier municipalities. 

    The purpose of the joint meeting is to discuss one matter in closed session respecting educating or training members on Strong Mayor powers. The meeting will be held electronically on April 17, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. and will be livestreamed to the County of Grey YouTube Channel. The agenda is available for review on the County of Grey’s website.

  • Green bin promotion with slogan - Small Actions, Big Impact.  Use the Green Bin.
    City to Launch Green Bin Collection Program the First Week of June

    The City of Owen Sound is thrilled to launch its new Green Bin Program, with collection starting the first week of June. Residents will be able to use green bins to dispose of organic waste, such as food scraps, soiled paper, pet waste, and other compostable materials, with curbside collection every week. It’s easy and convenient to take part in the program; no additional tags are required, and bins will be delivered directly to eligible homes!

    Temporary Closure of Walking Trail at 5th Avenue and 17th Street East 

    The City of Owen Sound has temporarily closed the pedestrian “catwalk” trail at 5th Avenue East and 17th Street East due to safety concerns identified during a recent inspection.  The trail sits on the east escarpment between Bayview Park and Timber McArthur Park and connects walkers to 4th Avenue East.

    Bayshore Community Centre Walking Track to Close for Summer During Building Upgrades

    The walking track at the Bayshore Community Centre will be closed to the public beginning April 25, 2025, until early September. This closure is necessary to allow for capital project work, including the replacement of the arena slab floor, arena boards, and safety netting, as well as the repainting of the upper concourse and washrooms.

    Spring Clean-Up Efforts Underway Across the City

    Over the next two months, City staff will be out across the community, tackling seasonal maintenance tasks to freshen up public spaces. This includes hanging new and seasonal banners in the River District, street sweeping, sidewalk pressure washing, and road line painting.

  • Compost site opens
    Owen Sound Leaf and Yard Waste Site Set to Open Monday, April 14

    The Owen Sound Leaf and Yard Waste compost site will re-open its gates for the season on Monday, April 14, at 8:30 a.m., weather permitting. Those using the site are asked to please take the time to read the allowed and prohibited materials list below, as the City continues to ensure compliance at the site. 

    The site will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week, allowing the convenient disposal of leaf and yard waste materials.

    City of Owen Sound and Union CUPE 1189 Ratify New Agreement for Outside Workers

    The City of Owen Sound is pleased to share that a new Collective Agreement between the City employees represented by CUPE 1189-01 and the City of Owen Sound has been ratified.

    Both the union, which represents many of the City’s outside workers, and City Council have formally approved the terms of the new contract on April 2, 2025. The previous agreement expired on March 31, 2024, and the new agreement runs through to March 31, 2027.
