Celebrating a Community Tradition: Summerfolk Returns for Its 51st Year
As one of Owen Sound's longest running and most beloved community events, the Georgian Bay Folk Society's 51st Summerfolk Music & Craft Festival will once again bring thousands of residents and visitors together to celebrate music, arts, culture, and community from August 20 to 23.
To support festival operations and help ensure the safety of attendees, traffic lanes will be reduced on both sides of the road north of the bridge on Eddie Sargent Parkway from the afternoon of Thursday, August 20 through the end of day Monday, August 24.
Motorists should expect delays, allow additional travel time, and consider alternate routes where possible. Increased pedestrian activity is expected throughout the area, and drivers are reminded to remain cautious and alert to help ensure the safety of all road users. Those not attending the festival are encouraged to consider alternate routes.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this signature community event. Summerfolk has been a cornerstone of Owen Sound's cultural identity for more than five decades, drawing visitors from across the region while supporting local businesses, artists, and community organizations. The festival showcases the welcoming spirit of Owen Sound and contributes significantly to the vibrancy of the city's waterfront and cultural scene.
A special Community Night will take place on Thursday, August 20, with admission by donation, providing an affordable opportunity for residents and visitors to experience live music and the unique atmosphere of Summerfolk.
The City would like to recognize the efforts of its Parks and Public Works staff and the many partners involved in planning and preparing for the festival. Their collaboration and hard work help transform Kelso Beach at Nawash Park into a welcoming venue for thousands of visitors while ensuring City services, public spaces, and roadways continue to operate smoothly throughout the event.
The City of Owen Sound remains committed to keeping residents informed about service impacts and appreciates the community's patience and cooperation as we welcome another exciting Summerfolk weekend to our waterfront.
