Transit Routes and Bus Stops Affected by Upcoming Alpha Street Construction

With major construction taking place along Alpha Street this Spring, the City of Owen Sound is reminding residents that some Owen Sound Transit routes and bus stops are changing during the construction, beginning Monday, April 22.

The project will impact both the Brooke and Crosstown bus routes.

The following bus stops will be temporarily closed:

  • Brooke Route bus stops along Alpha Street, between 6th Avenue West and Grey Road 17B (Nicol’s Gully Road)
  • Brooke Route bus stop at 10th Street and 8th Avenue West
  • Brooke Route bus stop at 10th Street and 3rd Avenue West

Three new temporary bus stops have been created as close as possible to serve the area:

  • North-West side of 10th Street at 3rd Avenue West
  • Alpha Street and 13th Street A West
  • South-East corner of 8th Avenue West and 10th Street West

In response to the closure, the Brooke route will be diverted onto 13th Street A West then onto 3rd Avenue West before heading to the Transit Terminal, while the Crosstown route will be redirected onto 10th Street West, servicing stops along the route from 8th Avenue West to 6th Avenue West.

Switching the bus stops from the Brooke route to the Crosstown route will result in an extended travel time to reach the Transit Terminal and riders should plan their trips accordingly.  A map of the updated transit routes, along with more project information, is available at OwenSound.ca/AlphaStreet.   For questions, residents can email TransitTerminal@OwenSound.ca.

Riders will soon have access to the "Find My Bus" transit app, which provides real-time bus arrival information and clarity on route changes during construction.

The City’s Mobility Bus will still be able to pick up and drop off registered riders as usual.

Some school bus routes and stops will be affected by construction.  All school transportation questions can be directed to the Grey Bruce Student Transportation Consortium.  They can be contacted via phone at 226-257-1000 or email contact@stscgb.ca.
