Road Closure: 16th Avenue E for Sanitary Sewer Replacement

The City of Owen Sound is notifying the public of an upcoming road closure along 16th Avenue East from 17th Street East to 20th Street East for the replacement of sanitary sewer lines. This section of road will be closed starting on Tuesday, September 2. 

The City has contracted with Walker Construction, as the General Contractor, to oversee and complete the replacement of the sanitary sewer.  

The work is planned to be completed by the end of October 2025. 

Motorists will need to follow the detour along 16th Street E to 9th Avenue East to 20th Street East.  

The Owen Sound Transit Core route will be affected by this road closure beginning on Tuesday, September 2. Transit riders are advised to refer to the Owen Sound Transit app, or the website at OwenSound.ca/Transit. The Mobility Bus will continue to pick up registered riders as needed.  

School bus routes and stops may be affected by the construction- this is especially relevant as the first day of this road closure coincides with the first day of school for all three local school boards.
