Owen Sound’s Green Bins Delivered, Weekly Collection Begins in June

With thousands of Green Bins now delivered to all eligible homes across the City, Owen Sound is one step closer to launching its new curbside organics collection program this June. Eligible homes include residential properties with six or fewer units currently receiving curbside garbage collection, excluding those located within the downtown River District.

Residents who believe they are eligible for a green bin but did not receive one are encouraged to submit the issue online at OwenSound.ca/ReportAConcern.  Be sure to select “Green Bin Issue” from the drop-down menu.

While bins are now in place, Green Bin collection will not begin until the first week of June. Once collection begins, residents can place their Green Bin curbside weekly on their regular collection day; garbage and recycling pick-up will remain bi-weekly. 

In preparation for the launch of the new organics program, the City is also inviting residents to complete a very short pre-launch survey. This feedback will help the City understand how ready residents feel, identify any outstanding questions, and learn about what might be preventing some residents from participating in the program. The survey is available now at OwenSound.ca/GreenBins.

Families and young artists are also reminded that the City’s Green Bin Colouring Contest is still open until Friday, May 30 at noon. This fun and educational activity is a great way for children to get involved and learn about the importance of waste diversion. Contest details and entry forms are available on the City’s website.
