Get Ready for Parks Season with these Helpful Tips

As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, it’s a great opportunity to visit Owen Sound’s parks and trails! From scenic lookouts and trails to waterfalls and beaches, here are some helpful hints to keep you, your family, and your pets safe and ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone:

  • Plan ahead.  Be sure to check the City’s Parks & Facilities and Trails webpages before you visit.
  • Make safe choices. Choose activities that correspond with you and your family’s level of experience.
  • Be self-sufficient. Bring your own water, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray, appropriate clothing and footwear, and any other supplies you require.
  • Leave no trace. Help us keep our natural areas beautiful by using appropriate garbage containers or by taking all your garbage with you. Please ensure to pick up after your pets.
  • Respect wildlife. Learn more about the wildlife in the park or site you will be visiting, remember to never feed wildlife, always give them space, maintain a clean campsite, respect closures and speed limits, and always keep your dog on a leash.
  • Avoid excessive noise. keep noise to a reasonable volume, especially in campgrounds. Encourage kids to be respectful of others.
  • Be vigilant around water. Always keep an eye on children and use life jackets if necessary.
  • Take nothing but photographs! Don’t collect rocks, shells, flowers, etc. to keep as souvenirs. It is important to leave these natural objects where they are so that others can enjoy them.
