Downtown Excess Snow Removal Update

The City of Owen Sound is advising residents of the plan regarding excess snow removal in the downtown core. Due to contractor and staffing availability, excess snow removal operations will take place in Owen Sound’s River District area beginning at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14. The work is expected to be completed by early Thursday morning.

Vehicles parked in the downtown core must be removed from parking spaces by 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, to allow snow removal equipment access. Winter overnight parking restrictions are in place. Vehicles interfering with snow removal activities will be towed. This is a temporary change and can be reviewed in full in Section 3.11 of the Traffic By-Law 2009-075.

The areas impacted include the following streets, or sections of streets, in the downtown area:

City staff will post signage indicating that snow-clearing operations are ongoing. Parking is available in municipal lots throughout the downtown core during the snow-removal period. Drivers and pedestrians are asked to be aware of their surroundings when travelling in these areas.

Snow removal operations in the downtown area are an essential part of the City’s efforts to keep the streets and sidewalks clear and passable for residents, as well as emergency vehicles.
