The City of Owen Sound is advising residents and motorists of a temporary road closure on 8th Street East between 8th Avenue East and 9th Avenue East, beginning Monday, July 13, 2026, until Friday, July 31.  This closure is to accommodate essential maintenance work on the natural gas distribution system.

During the closure:

  • Local traffic will continue to have access to properties on 8th Street East from the 8th Avenue East intersection.
  • Through traffic on 8th Street East will be closed at the 9th Avenue East intersection.
  • Southbound traffic on 9th Avenue East will be reduced to one lane while entering and exiting the intersection at 8th Street East.
  • Northbound through traffic on 9th Ave East will remain impacted.
  • The northwest sidewalk at the intersection of 8th Street East and 9th Avenue East will be temporarily diverted; an accessible temporary pedestrian crossing will be provided approximately 20 metres west of 9th Avenue East to maintain safe access across 8th Street East.

The work is being undertaken to complete essential maintenance on the Enbridge natural gas distribution system located in the northwest quadrant of the intersection of 8th Street East and 9th Avenue East.
