Lead Where You Live: Candidate Nomination Period for 2026 Municipal Election Begins May 1
The City of Owen Sound is notifying residents that the nomination period for the upcoming Municipal Election officially begins on Friday, May 1, 2026. The nomination period ends on Friday, August 21, 2026 at 2 P.M.
To run as a candidate, you must be:

A Canadian citizen.

At least 18 years old.

Be qualified to vote in the municipality by:

Living in the municipality, or
-
Owning or renting property in the municipality, or
-
Being the spouse of someone who owns or rents property in the municipality.

Not prohibited from holding municipal office under any Act.
Information about qualifications and the required documents for a nomination are available at OwenSoundVotes.ca. A filing fee of $200 for Mayor or $100 for all other offices is also required. Candidates who wish to file their nomination are encouraged to make an appointment with the Election Team by phone at 519-370-7350 or by email at elections@owensound.ca.
