City of Owen Sound Celebrates National Public Works Week
The City of Owen Sound proudly acknowledges National Public Works Week, honouring the outstanding contributions of public works professionals from May 18 to 24, 2026. This annual celebration is an important opportunity to recognize the hard work and dedication of the individuals who quietly power our community every single day, the behind-the-scenes engine that keeps Owen Sound running.
Public Works is infrastructure you rarely think about, until something goes wrong. Clean water flows from your tap, waste disappears when you flush, roads are clear after a snowstorm, and streets are safe to travel. None of that happens by accident. It happens because of Public Works.
National Public Works Week brings awareness to the essential services that our dedicated Public Works professionals make possible. If you can turn on the tap and get clean water, flush the toilet and it goes away, and safely travel to and from work, school, or activities throughout the day, you have a Public Works employee to thank for that.
These are the people working early mornings, late nights, and through every season to ensure our community never misses a beat. We encourage residents to join us in expressing sincere appreciation for their efforts and commitment to maintaining our quality of life.
Owen Sound's Public Works staff deliver many critical services that residents, businesses, and visitors rely on every day, including snow removal, road maintenance, water treatment and distribution, wastewater treatment and collection, and stormwater management.
These services ensure our City runs smoothly and safely, and most of the time, they succeed so well that people never notice they're happening at all. That invisibility is a measure of excellence.
The next time your commute is clear, your water is clean, or a pothole gets fixed before you hit it twice, remember there are people behind the scenes: our Public Works team.
The City of Owen Sound encourages everyone to acknowledge the important work of our Public Works employees and their daily commitment to our community.
