City Encourages Residents to Confirm They Are on the Voters' List

The City of Owen Sound encourages all eligible residents to confirm they are on the Voters' List and that their information is up to date before the upcoming 2026 Municipal and School Board Election.

Residents can visit Owen Sound's election website at OwenSoundVotes.ca to learn about voter eligibility, acceptable identification, voting methods, and key election dates. To check whether you are on the Voters' List, visit the website and use our online tool. If you need to update your information or be added to the Voters' List, please visit the City Hall Election Counter for support.

To be eligible to vote in the City of Owen Sound Municipal Election, an individual must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years of age on voting day, and either reside in the City of Owen Sound, own or rent property in the City, or be the spouse of such a person. Renters are eligible to vote and are encouraged to ensure they are registered.

Residents visiting City Hall to check, update, or add their information to the Voters' List are encouraged to bring identification and proof of residence. A full list of acceptable identification is available on OwenSoundVotes.ca.

The City is committed to making voter registration accessible. Residents without identification can still be added to the Voters' List by visiting City Hall and completing a declaration.

Update:

Individuals who confirm or update their voter information by September 15 can expect to receive their Voter Information Letter by mail before October 7. Individuals who add or update their information after September 15 will receive a Voter Information Letter at the time of registration, which will automatically disable any prior credentials. Voters who have not received a Voter Information Letter by October 8 are encouraged to visit the Election Counter at City Hall during business hours or attend an Election Centre during the voting period for assistance.

The Voter Information Letter includes important voting information and the unique credentials required to cast a ballot during the voting period. Anyone who receives a Voter Information Letter addressed to someone else should bring the letter to City Hall or re-mail it as Return to Sender. It is illegal to vote using someone else’s voter credentials.

The City is encouraging all eligible residents to:

• Visit OwenSoundVotes.ca and review voter information.
• Confirm they are on the Voters' List.
• Visit City Hall if they need to update or add voter information.
• Bring identification and proof of residence when possible.
• Watch for their Voter Information Letter in early October.

The 2026 Municipal and School Board Election voting period runs from October 16 to October 26, 2026, with voting available by internet or telephone.
