Temporary Traffic & Waterway Disruptions Expected Sunday for Owen Sound Triathlon
The City of Owen Sound is advising residents and visitors to plan ahead for road and waterway disruptions this Sunday, July 20, 2025, as the Subaru Triathlon Series returns to the city, featuring both sprint and Olympic distance races.
The event, hosted at Kelso Beach at Nawash Park, will see over 400 athletes swimming, cycling, and running through Owen Sound’s roadways and inner harbour throughout the day.
To ensure public and participant safety, several road closures and traffic interruptions will be in effect beginning at 7 a.m. Motorists should expect delays, consider alternate routes, and allow extra travel time where possible. Police will be stationed along the route to assist with traffic flow and ensure safety, but all road users are reminded to remain alert when navigating the area.
Full Road Closures:
- 1st Avenue West from the pedestrian bridge into Kelso to the 10th Street bridge
- Westbound right turn lane (onto 1st Avenue West) from the 10th Street bridge
- 1st Avenue East/17th Street East to the second turnaround point (south of Miller Silos)
Local Traffic Only:
- 11th Street West, from 1st Ave to 2nd Ave
- 12th Street West, from 1st Ave to 2nd Ave
- 13th Street West, from 1st Ave to 2nd Ave

Plenty of cyclists will be riding along Grey Road 1/Eddie Sargeant Parkway as part of the course route. Without a lane or road closure, motorists and cyclists are reminded to share the road and only pass when safe to do so.
The Launch restaurant is accessible by parking off-site and walking to their patio.
Roads are expected to be re-opened by 3:30 p.m.
In-Water Traffic Disruption:
Boaters are advised that approximately 200 swimmers will be in the water during each of the swim times, and safety boats will be on site to monitor the area. During this time, Transport Canada is not expecting any commercial traffic to the Owen Sound Public Port Facility. The swim portion of the triathlon will take place during the following times:
- 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. (1300 UTC – 1400 UTC)
- 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. (1700 UTC – 1800 UTC)
We appreciate the community’s support and cooperation in making this exciting event a safe and enjoyable experience for all involved.
