Fire Contained on 2nd Ave E

On Saturday, February 7, 2026 Owen Sound Fire and Emergency Services were called to 1005 2nd Avenue East at 1:45am for a report of a fire on the 3rd floor.  10 fire department staff responded to the 2nd alarm incident and were met by building occupants evacuating.

The initial responding crew were met by heavy smoke conditions. They stretched a hose line to the third floor and quickly located the unit and extinguished the mattress fire. Crews then ventilated the building and checked the other units for extension.

Upon investigation, it was determined smoking materials caused the fire. A working smoke alarm in the unit alerted the resident who was able to escape without injury. The building was turned back over to the management.
