City Removing High-Priority Hazard Trees
The City of Owen Sound is proceeding with the removal of high-priority hazardous trees identified in the updated municipal tree inventory. Work will begin immediately, weather permitting, and will be carried out by Mulmur Tree Services, the contractor retained to complete this program.
The City’s most recent tree inventory identified a number of trees (approximately 288 trees) in high and very high hazard categories due to structural defects, emerald ash borer damage, or advanced decline. These trees present elevated risks to public safety and property.
Mulmur will begin removals at locations where work can be completed safely at this time of year, including ravines and areas with minimal impacts on residents and traffic. Crews will then move into neighbourhoods and higher-use areas as conditions allow.
Residents living adjacent to trees scheduled for removal will receive direct notification from the contractor prior to work beginning. Any tree removal that occurs beside private property will include property owner contact in advance.
The City appreciates the community’s patience as this important work is carried out to ensure the safety and health of the urban forest. Residents who notice tree concerns on City property are encouraged to use the Report a Concern – Tree Issue form on the City’s website.
