City of Owen Sound Improves Wastewater Service Reliability for Residents

Major infrastructure improvements are set to begin at the 27th Street West Sanitary Pump Station, bringing enhanced reliability and improved wastewater services to residents in the area.

The comprehensive rehabilitation project at 200 27th Street West will modernize the aging pump station infrastructure, replacing outdated equipment with state-of-the-art technology to ensure dependable service for years to come.

Work on this vital infrastructure project is scheduled to commence Wednesday, September 10, transforming the outdated pump station controls with modern technology and enhanced capabilities.

The rehabilitation will upgrade the pump station's capabilities through:

  • Advanced Control Systems: Installation of a new duplex pump control panel with automated monitoring, backup systems, and remote communication capabilities for faster response to any service issues.

  • Enhanced Safety Features: New lockable access systems and improved ventilation for safer maintenance operations and better long-term facility management.

  • Continuous Service: Implementation of bypass pumping systems ensures residents will experience no interruption to wastewater services during construction.

This infrastructure investment will deliver immediate and long-term benefits to the community. The improved reliability from the updated, modern equipment and automated monitoring systems will significantly reduce the risk of service disruptions and equipment failures.

This will support City workers with a faster response time, thanks to new remote monitoring and communication systems, enabling City crews to identify and address any issues more quickly, minimizing potential impacts on residents.

These updated systems will provide better overflow protection and more efficient wastewater management, supporting the health of local waterways.

Integrating more reliable equipment means fewer emergency repairs and less disruption to the surrounding neighbourhood.

The project represents a significant investment in Owen Sound's critical infrastructure and reflects the City's ongoing commitment to maintaining and upgrading municipal utilities to serve the growing needs of the community.

Residents of Owen Sound deserve reliable infrastructure they can count on. This City investment in modern technology means better service today and peace of mind for the future.

Residents will be notified in advance of any temporary construction-related activities that may affect the immediate area.

The City of Owen Sound is committed to providing reliable, efficient municipal services while maintaining and improving critical infrastructure to support the community's long-term growth and prosperity.
