Comprehensive Review of the City of Owen Sound Sign By-Law

Sign bylawThe City of Owen Sound has initiated a comprehensive review of the Sign By-law which regulates the erection of signage and related advertising in the City.

Under the authority of the Municipal Act, the City passed By-law 1986-193, as amended, that regulates the erection of signage and relating advertising in the City.  The By-law has been amended more than 10 times since then, and there are other regulatory policies and by-laws that relate to the placement of signs.

A fresh look at the By-law is warranted to consider changes to related regulations as well as sign construction and to contemplate the vision and mission of the City outlined in the Strategic Plan (2012).  Signs are everywhere in the City.

The first public meeting was held on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the beginning of the review process.  Building on the input received at that meeting and through the online survey tool a Draft New Comprehensive Sign By-law has been prepared.  You’re invited to attend a second Public Meeting to have your say on this draft by-law which will be posted below prior to the meeting.

PUBLIC MEETING DATE: Thursday, November 7, 2013
TIME: 5:00 p.m.
MEETING PLACE: City Hall Council Chambers, 808 2nd Avenue East, Owen Sound
