Special Events

The City of Owen Sound's Special Events Office is prepared to advise and assist with the execution of successful public events in the City of Owen Sound. It has compiled an Event Planning Guide which is a highly recommended resource for both new and experienced event planners.

The Special Events Office consists of a single staff position, the Events and Activation Coordinator, aided by volunteers and special project staff as required. The office is an important agent in delivering several goals and actions under its current Strategic Plan, including:

Economy

Leverage our City's assets in order to enhance tourism opportunities. This applies to attracting new investment and new economic development opportunities in the form of festivals, tournaments, and events.

Society and Culture

Encourage and promote participation in cultural activities and active lifestyles. Delivering free events to residents remains a particularly important objective.

The Special Events Office's primary role is to develop, plan, promote, and coordinate the City's annual events, including:

The Special Events Office also assists with other events including Doors Open and the Salmon Celebration, and takes a lead role in the development and facilitation of new events and special one-time events such as Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada,  Rogers Hometown Hockey, the 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay Celebration, and 2017's Maawanji'iding: Festival Canadiana Owen Sound.
