City Closures and Services Update in response to Province moving into Step Two of its Roadmap to Reopen with modifications
In light of the announcement from the Province of Ontario temporarily moving into Step Two of the Roadmap to Reopen with modifications, the City of Owen Sound is providing an update on the impacts to City facilities and services effective January 5, 2022.
Recreation / Parks and Open Spaces
Exercise is considered an essential reason for leaving your home. Residents should only participate in outdoor recreational activities with those in their household.
- The Harrison Park Good Cheer Rink will be open to the public at reduced capacity.
- City parks and trails remain open for recreational activity.
- Indoor sport and recreational fitness facilities including the Julie MacArthur Regional Recreation Centre and the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre are closed until January 27, 2022.
Services
- City Hall will be closed to the public until January 31, 2022.
- Owen Sound City Council and Committee meetings will be held virtually until January 31, 2022 (including the Special Council meeting scheduled for January 7). Council and Committee Meetings will remain available for the public to stream live on the City’s website. Council Meetings will also be available to view on Rogers TV or Rogers TV Grey County Website.
- Building and Planning Services continue to be maintained throughout the closure. Applications will be accepted electronically or via the drop-box at the east entrance of City Hall.
- Online payment services are available for tax and utility payments.
- Marriage Licenses, Civil Ceremonies, and Commissioning will not be available during the closure.
- Long-term parking passes for Municipal lots and individual Bag Tags for curbside waste collection remain available at the Transit Terminal and the Library.
- The Greenwood Cemetery Office will be closed to the public, services continue to be maintained throughout the closure and attendance at services will need to comply with provincial requirements.
Public Works
- The Public Works facility at 1900 20th Street East will be closed to the public until January 31, 2022.
- Water, Wastewater, Waste Management, and Snow Removal services will continue as normal.
- Transit services are unaffected by the announcement. The 10-passenger limit remains. Riders must always wear a face covering (mask) while riding.
Tom Thomson Art Gallery /Owen Sound North Grey Union Library
- The art gallery will be closed to the public through January 27, 2022.
- The Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library will continue to be open with limited capacity.
In a collaborative effort, the City is supporting the Grey Bruce Public Health Unit in the accelerated booster dose rollout by hosting a Hockey Hub Vaccination clinic at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre beginning January 11, 2022. A current list of all vaccination clinics is listed on the Grey Bruce Public Health website.
The City of Owen Sound will continue to monitor and assess the situation closely and work diligently with the Grey Bruce Public Health Unit to respond appropriately.
