Asphalt Resurfacing Preparation Begins
Preparation for the 2021 Asphalt Resurfacing Program is set to begin within the next few weeks.
2021 Asphalt Resurfacing work includes repairs to existing maintenance holes and catch basins, replacing sections of curbs and sidewalks, subsequently followed by milling and paving of the roadway. The work is expected to be completed by the end of September.
To complete the work safely, temporary lane closures may be required and drivers may experience some delays. While the contractor will have measures in place to ensure safe pedestrian access, caution is requested when walking through the construction area.
Work will be performed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday to Friday and include the following locations (click on the following hyperlinks to view each location):

- 8th Street West – 4th Avenue West to 4th Avenue A West
- 20th Street East – 20th Ave. East to 28th Ave. East

- 8th Avenue West – 9th Street West to 10th Street West
- 16th Avenue East– 20th Street East to 23rd Street East
- 2nd Avenue East R – 2nd Avenue East to end of lane
- 18th Street West – 5th Avenue West to end of road
- 26th Street West – 2nd Avenue West to 3rd Avenue West
- 9th Street A East – 8th Avenue East to end of road

- Milling asphalt is the process of removing the top layer of asphalt into very small pieces that look like gravel.
- This is the City’s largest annual asphalt resurfacing program in 10 years.
- The asphalt resurfacing program supports Council’s ‘A City that Moves’ strategic priority to increase the number of roads with a Pavement Condition Index (PCI) rating greater than 70 by 10%.
- City Council approved Award RFT-21-046 Asphalt Resurfacing 2021 Program May 3, 2021 awarding the work to Harold Sutherland Construction.
