By-law Enforcement

By-law Enforcement Officers help inform people of the rules and also respond to complaints in accordance with the By-law Enforcement Policy.

Common by-laws that are enforced relate to open-air fires, property standards, yard maintenance, noise, nuisance, traffic, and parking by-laws.  The By-laws at a Glance infographic is a guide on common by-law infractions.

The City uses a contractor to enforce animal related by-laws such as the dog, cat, and keeping of certain animals by-laws.  Please contact the Owen Sound Animal Shelter by emailing osas@bmts.com or by calling 519-372-1123 to submit a complaint or to make an animal related inquiry.  Visit the Animal Services page for more information.
