The Accessibility Advisory Committee was established in accordance with the requirements of the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001. The majority of members are people with disabilities. The Committee is comprised of members of the public and members of City Council who provide recommendations to Council on matters related to integrated accessibility for all citizens.
Administration of the Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) is conducted through the Community Services Department.
The primary role of the Committee is to advise Council as legislatively required by the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (191/11) and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005. This includes reviewing the City’s capital projects relating to the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulations (public right of way, parks, facilities), and supporting implementation of initiatives and actions within the City’s Strategic Plan and Official Plan. The Committee also receives presentations from staff regarding plans and drawings for development under Section 41 of the Planning Act and Plans of Subdivision under Section 5 with respect to accessibility issues.
