August 1, 2010The Tyler Summers Trio Nashville based Singer-Songwriter-Musician Tyler Summers is no stranger to the stage. Recently named Galaxie’s Rising Star at the National Jazz Awards in Canada, over the last 3 years, Tyler has toured with Canadian country star Johnny Reid, and backed up artists ranging from Texas indie band Spoon, to the queen of indie rock herself, Feist. Tyler has made appearances on The Tonight Show with David Letterman, The Today Show, and the nationally televised Canadian Country Music Awards. The Tyler Summers Trio combines pop/rock/jazz elements into a high energy performance that has taken them across Canada, through New York State, and the Southern US. Songs penned by Tyler reminiscent of Billy Joel, John Mayer, and Jason Mraz have been featured in several magazines including the American Songwriter Magazine, where his song "Mirror Of A Man" was a finalist in their 2009 Lyric Competition. August 8, 2010Sploink Sploink evolved from a Friday night jam session when Owen Sound tenor sax player Don Buchanan and keyboard player Rob Gasidlo were hosting weekly jazz at a city restaurant. The quintet with two tenors at the front, from Buchanan and Kincardine sax player Jason Hunter, along with Tyler Wagler, bass, and percussionist Bruce Campbell, and Gasidlo enjoyed the session so much they agreed to do it again and Sploink began. Four years later they are one of the most exciting jazz groups in the Grey-Bruce area. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2007 and features all original compositions. Sploink’s sound encompasses swing, blues, modern jazz and is characterized by a sense of exploration and the sheer joy these five musicians have in playing together. Thanks to Tony & Sue Crutcher for making this concert possible. |
