Every-Other-Week Garbage Collection

The City moved to Every-Other-Week Garbage Collection in July 2009. Garbage is now picked up on the same day as your current Blue Box collection.

The City implemented this change as a cost savings measure to reflect the 47% drop in curbside garbage weight since 1997. With almost 50% less garbage to pick up it does not make sense to stay with the old system of two trucks and four collection staff.

By making some relatively minor changes to the calendar, staff are able to continue to offer weekly service to the downtown core area, in order to keep the downtown core tidy and a welcoming place for shoppers.

The Garbage Bag Limit is now four bags or containers per residential unit every two weeks except in the downtown core where it remains three bags or containers per week. Each bags or container and its contents can weigh no more than 18 kg. (40 pounds).
