Council Meeting Highlights

March 20, 2017

  • A public meeting was held respecting stopping up and closing, declaring surplus and disposing of municipal property – 2nd Avenue West Road Allowance

  • Jeffrey Robbins from Aveda Mane Street Hair Salon provided a deputation respecting the ‘Walk for Water’

  • Francesca Dobbyn of United Way of Bruce Grey provided a deputation respecting Owen Sound Sewer and Water and City Council requested a report on the options presented in the deputation

  • Poets Laureate Larry Jensen an Rob Rolfe and guest poet Richard-Yves Sitoski presented ‘Sounds of My Home Town’.

  • The Event Facilitator shared a presentation on the Canada 150th and Owen Sound 160th celebration plans

  • City Council approved removing the holding “H” symbol from the Holding Retail Commercial zone for lands at the southwest corner of 16th Street East and 20th Avenue East and approved the site plan subject to certain conditions

  • City Council approved passing a by-law to amend the Flag Flying, Proclamations and Public Awareness Campaigns policy and approved the construction of a community flag pole at City Hall

  • City Council approved the 2017 DIA Maintenance Agreement

  • City Council approved the allocation of funds from the Tom Williams Reserve Fund to assist the Community Waterfront Heritage Centre with the refurbishment of the Dining Train Car

  • City Council will not be waiving fees for the Habitat for Humanity Development on 26th Street West

  • City Council made no change to the hours of downtown parking enforcement

  • The new Kelso Beach Park washroom and changeroom was named the “GOOD CHEER WASHROOM AND CHANGEROOM”

  • City Council congratulated the Owen Sound Attack on a successful season and wished them the best of luck in the playoffs
