The City Clerks Office provides a Civil Marriage Service.
You will require a valid Ontario Marriage Licence, issued within the previous three months by the City Clerk’s office, or another Ontario Municipality . Refer to this page for more information.
Civil Marriage services will be provided in the City Hall Council Chambers, primarily on Friday afternoons. Other times and locations may be arranged.
Fees: $350.00 plus G.S.T. (cash/certified cheque or debit) payable to The City of Owen Sound (includes use of Council Chambers). An additional fee of $30.00 plus G.S.T. will be charged for travel to immediate vicinity.
Should you wish to have a rehearsal a fee of $50 plus GST will apply. If you require us to supply witnesses we can do so for a charge of $25 plus GST. All fees must be received prior to the Civil Marriage Ceremony.
Due to the civil nature of this service, interested parties must be aware that there cannot be any religious connotation to the ceremony whatsoever. Persons interested in a ceremony containing any religious connotation are welcome to review the list contained elsewhere on the City’s website (see a list of Solemnizers (pdf) .
A meeting with the person Solemnizing the marriage will take place on a day prior to the actual service. This will be a mandatory meeting with both parties to the marriage at which time the guidelines will be reviewed and the actual service will be agreed upon.
