Certain businesses are not allowed in certain areas of the City. Before signing any lease be sure to check the Zoning of the site by contacting the Planning Division at the City Hall.
According to the City of Owen Sound's Business Licence By-law 2005-115, certain businesses that operate within the City of Owen Sound are required to have a business licence. For more details of By-laws for specific types of businesses, please contact the City Clerk's Office.
To apply for a business licence, you must complete the appropriate application and forward it to City Clerk's Office with the appropriate fees. Once your application has been processed, your Licence will be mailed to you. Check with Planning Division to ensure location of proposed business is zoned appropriately.
Complete Business Licence Application form and submit along with required fee. If it is a home occupation licence a floor plan is required to accompany the application. If it is a refreshment vehicle licence a TSSA Form is required to be submitted.
After application is received by the Clerk’s Office, the application will go to the following Council meeting and will be distributed to various departments.
Once application is approved by Council and the various departments, the Business Licence will be mailed to the applicant.
Assuming there are no compliance issues during any of the steps, the process should take approximately four to twelve weeks.
Chip Wagon or Refreshment Vehicle $220.00 for first vehicle annually
$ 25.00 for each additional vehicle annually
Hawkers & Peddlers $300.00 Resident annual fee
(Including Resident & Non-Resident Transient $600.00 Non-Resident annual fee.
Photographers) $300.00 Non-Resident for five consecutive days or less - once only per calendar year
