Commercial Areas

Owen Sound is the business, shopping and government centre for the Grey Bruce region. Our commercial areas attract people from throughout a widespread area. Everything you need is right here. Our amenities range from popular department stores to boutique shopping to unique restaurants to well-known chains.

There are 3 main commercial areas in the city, with the majority of office and service space is located in our downtown core.

Downtown

DowntownWith more than 400 thousand square feet of commercial floor space Owen Sound's downtown core has the largest concentration of it in Grey and Bruce Counties.

We are committed to constantly growing and improving our vibrant downtown core. To foster the historic ambience of the downtown core, the municipal Façade Restoration Program assists downtown property owners with grants to restore original façades and historical architecture.

We know helping businesses succeed is the best way to keep improving our downtown. The Owen Sound Community Improvement Plan provides incentives for developers looking to invest in development in the inner harbour. We also boast a strong Downtown Improvement Association.

  • 74% of downtown business sales come from foot traffic.

East Side

Location: 16th Street East (Highway 26 East corridor)

Available Land: Building sites near Home Depot

This major regional commercial area is Owen Sound's most popular shopping area. More than 50% of the city's commercial retail space including the Heritage Place Shopping Centre is located here as well as a variety of restaurants, boutiques and specialty shops.

Location: Along 10th Street

The Sunset Strip in Owen Sound's west side accounts for about a quarter of retail space in the city. The area offers car dealerships, specialty stores and fast food restaurants as well as several large stores.
